Let us know how they do for you?Around here, they are only found in mud/muck around the shorelines and various islands in the I.C.W.
There aren't as many in Mosquito Lagoon,I think it has something to do with the different kind of substrate and the cleaner water.

    Sure thing, pics and all

Supposedly these are hand picked from the trees somewhere in Puerto Rico. Figuring if we get 50-60% survival rate we wil be ahead of the game. Saw one in a LFS for sale for something like $45, it had sprouted and was about a foot tall, totally absurd pricing on some things.

I would love to see pictures of everything you talked about Davejnz! It's the closest I'll get to FL for a while!

The mangroves ought to be an interesting challange. The idea of them around our spa is very enticing!

    Default pics from Mosquito Lagoon

Here's a few pics from todays fishing trip. The biotope here is mostly seagrass, the sediment is very sandy typical of beaches. Not suprprising, mangroves dont seem to thrive here.I'll gest some pics later this week of a typical mangrove biotope.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#I just got back from my vacation in the Florida Keys. My vacation was cut short by Hurricane Katrina. The mangrove seeds are in season. They are floating all over. They grow slow. They could take a year to reach a foot tall. In a fish tank, the nutrient uptake is probably not enough to make a difference, but they are cool. The roots, once big enough provide a nice fish habitat. I was planning on catching some neon gobies for my tank, and maybe some anenome shimp, but we spent the first few days fishing and the day I planned on collecting, we had to pack up and head back home (3 hours to Naples). Our water in Naples is too murky to dive unless you go way off shore. The keys are a much better place to do this.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

If it is hardy, I will find a way to kill it. Just Kidding!

Well we got 20 pods in saturday, they got planted immediately... so it's a wait and see what happens now game. I keep peeking in to see if they are doing anything yet, think the watched pot theory will come into play here.

    Default Mangrove Update

Update: All of the mangrove pods have sprouted roots! Some as long as
2" already, some have red roots and the others white. No changes in the
top of the pods, most have a little shoot sticking up that is the same
as the day I recieved them.... but I know they are at least doing
something besides looking like green sticks now
