that does look like kelp to me where did you get it? id love to get my hands on some of that
I believe you have Sargassum algae.

I agree it looks like Sargassum to me
I have some too both in main tank and ref... have had no problems at all with it, just keep it from shading my light loving corals

It is interesting stuff the fish like to swim in and shelter there. It just grew out of some live rock i got at lfs. I like the look seems natural.
