Well with x mas on the way I am considering buying the wife a macro lens for her dslr. Problem is I have no freakin idea what I am looking at or for. I bought her a Sony a330 dslr a few years back. What is a good lens and what should I be looking for so she can get the up close shots on corals. Any input would be appreciated and suggestions of where to buy would be helpful. Tx.
Check out this webpage HERE and look at the macro lenses available for the Sony a330 dslr.
HERE is a review of the 8 best macro lenses available......see the Sony & Tamron macro lens reviews and the final recommendation for the Sony dslr.
Get a lens that is at least 90mm or bigger. I normally recommend buying the same lens manufacturer as the camera (for Nikon & Canon), but in this case, I suggest getting a 3rd party lens, such as the Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro....it cost less than the Sony macro and is a very sharp lens, probably better than the Sony lens.
HERE is the review on the Sony 100mm macro 2.8 lens. HERE is another in-depth review on the Sony macro lens. Read the conclusions carefully.
HERE is a review of the Tamron 90mm macro, but on a Nikon camera. You will note that they recommend this lens as equal to or better than the fantastic Nikon 105mm Micro lens.
