I started my 100g with 2 X 54 watt t5 1 10000K and 1 actinic. you could try 2 80W t5 to start and add more t5 or metal halide as money allows. two t5 is enough light to see in your tank as it cycles....

I have a similar setup in 1.5" plumbing i thought the max flow through this pipe would be around 1500 gph a number i got from a calculator on a different site. 1 " plumbing should max around 600 gph....

If you can remove the 90 in the box it might breath better. I don't think 1/4" airline is enough to make a difference.
