Reason I asked is i am having a couple of my well established pieces(2+ years ORA tri color validia and ORA Miami orchid ) showing STN with no pests in tank. I have dipped them several times and know the signs to look for with no success in stopping said event.

nitrates 5-10(a tad high but doing a water change presently)

STN stands for steady tissue necrosis as opposed to RTN or rapid tissue necrosis. Usually STN is due to some condition in the tank such as a nutrient problem , a lack of stability or inappropriate flow. In most cases you can cut ahead of the necrosis and save the coral.
Sorry steady necrosis. I have had great water stability over the last few months when i was having this issue, i am hoping it was due to incorrect spectrum do to shifting of the bulbs. I just replaced them 2 weeks ago and waiting to see if that fixes the issue.
