Nice setup. But per your drawing water level will be approx 11" Too deep for most skimmers. You may perhaps need something to lift the skimmer up a bit. My (Limited) experience is most skimmers will want 6 to 8 inches of water. So look at your preferred skimmer see what they ask for (Water level) and set up some kind of spacer. Also ensure that if your using under the tank there is enoulf clearance. Before constructing you may want to get a bit of info On Plenums for the refugium. (IMHO) the 15 dollars extra it would cost it would be a great addition to the sump and the tank.

Thanks for the input....I've actually modified my sump a bit. I'm working out the final kinks today. I'm changing the size/shape/placement of the frag/hospital section. I'm also going to switch the placement of the reurn & refugium to better control the fuge-flow, thanks to some good advise from iVgOnMaD.

I am not going to to use a Plenum in the fuge; My sandbed in the display tank will be over 10cm deep, providing plenty of space for the complete cycle to take place. Here is a vey good article by Dr. Rob Toonen (UC Davis professor...brilliant man who studies the health/correlation between reefs and corresponding sediments and mangroves).

The diagram at the bottom breaks down the decomp process. I figure with my tank having a 30x30 footprint, that gives me almost 12 gallons of sand alone at 12cm deep.

I'll post my final plans when they're done. I'm actually thinking now, of setting up a small mangrove section in my fuge....maybe 3 switchback rows 12" long by 3" wide. That should give me about 9 trees at 4" apart.
