Having compared my GIP's to that of others I've notice that mine are opened funny looking. Like all the way to the point that those little feelers (dont know the exact parts of a zoa yet) are pointing downwards. Their attached to LR just a little above mid level of the tank. Under 18w 10k compact. Are they a lower light zoa? Can you tell by the color of a zoa it's light preferences?

Mine do the exact same thing. Thay have a wide open look to them, to me. I take it as an indicator that they are happy.

They are a polyp that does well in lower light conditions, but also do well in high light as well. The colors in them will change in different lighting conditions. In my experiance, they look best with good lighting.

Mine look just like yours at the bottom of my tank. They can lose their prominent stripes in low light conditions, and turn a boring green/brown.

mine open up with tentilcles upward but depending on where i put them in the tank they will lose their green..right now some polyps are happy with green..some are not and are the boring brown color..but no matter where i put them in the tank i get the 50/50 color ratio on them..

I'm beginning to think they prefer a lower lighting~mine are about mid level in the tank~18w 10k and are like in betweeners greenish brown~the frag I brought to the LFS has em on the sand bed under a t5 bulb and they appear to be lighter and are not growing as fast as mine.

Definitly a lower light coral. Too much light will make them unhappy. Just the right light will keep them very pretty. Too little light will brown them out, and wont be as nice looking, but can survive in very very low lighting.

i think it has alot to do with the type of lighting also..mine seem to have more pop under t5 if they are in the right spot but do ok with light green hue on the sea horse tank which is lit with PC lighting.

Mine are a bright green probably due to my higher alk, 250w Radiums, and T5's
