Course, I have to clarify by stating that what some consider rediculous pricing isn't necessarily so to someone with a bigger pocketbook. While I would never pay that for a single polyp, I do know people who would without blinking an eye. Although I'm not sure that even they would on this one, given the obvious lack of "true lighting" in that photo. Call it actinics, call it LEDs, call it the temp. of your lighting, or call it photoshop, I really could care less - when an obvious blue haze surrounds the frag, it isn't going to look like the picture when it hits your tank. threads like this are good for the uninformed and the general public, but the fact is there is always someone who will pay that rediculous price in order to be able to say they have the new latest and greatest - in this case obviously someone already did. Someone did the same thing with the Flamethrower, which to anyone who's been in the game for awhile was obviously a Bam-Bam.

One of the truly sad, but true, commentaries I saw on this was on another forum when someone said,

"You would think that if people (you) started to sell at a more resonable price then others would have to follow... "Hey, why spend $1000 for this when I can buy it for $10 over here.." and then those charging $1000 realize that they have to lower the price to compete...

Well it doesn't work that way unfortunately. I tried this with some Valentines Day Massacre polyps. I was charging $5 for 4 heads... People would actively buy from another person on this forum for the EXACT same strain for a much higher price. Almost like they felt that the value they got out of the piece is proportional to what they paid for it."

Very sad, but very true. I have the new Tyree Space Monster, I paid no where near the price that that polyp sold for at auction. I probably won't sell any frags of the piece, but I certainly will try and trade for other polyps with it. Because it has an LE name will it be worth more in the trade? Certainly it will. Does that mean I don't think it will come down in price eventually? Sure it will, based on my tank growth, this is a very fast grower and frags of it will soon be hitting the market IMO, are these frags going to be high priced? Sure they are. Are people going to pay that high price? Certainly some will. It is a vicious circle unfortunately, and I'm doubtful that reefing will ever go back to what it once was because of the hype and "collectors". People complain about zoas and palys, but the fact is that the favias, the scolys, the SPS, the acans, and most other coral groups all have their collectable pieces. Look at the My Maime or chalices period and tell me it isn't hype. When people are willing to pay $200 or $300 or more for a sliver of a coral even without any eyes, how is that truly any different?
