I think it's true...they prefer "dirtier" water than acros.

Probably why I can't grow acros, but my zoas grow like crazy.

I know zoas like water with high nutrient content in comparison to SPS, I wish I could see for my self first hand. I also know that in the wild the zoas are not as vibrant as we see them in our tanks.

Has anyone here seen zoas in the wild???

I have seen zoas in the wild. They were primarily green and in huge colonies. I do think they like muddy water though.

I was going to reply but didn't want to take the subject off topic. For clarity, what are you asking specifically ? Preference, correlation, whether they like DW or not, do all, some or many prefer it? Is it best or should we across the board try to emulate those facts or opinions?

Mucho- all the above- Preference, correlation, whether they like DW or not, do all, some or many prefer it.

Would like to see this as an open topic on the subject- no worries about getting off topic, as long as it falls in the line of the original post.

Its funny my limited experience suggests they don't really mind dirty water. BUT, I have 22g cadlights, which is shamefully dirty, where they just wither and die. In that same 22g the balano and dendro love life. The few zoas in my 180 where the nitrates always test under 1ppm (prodibio/vsv) are doing very well. Growth in the big tank isn't crazy, but it's good, and the polyps stay pretty small with very short stalks. The small polyps could be flow or light related, I mainly have sps in the tank, and they are quite happy with conditions. Not much, but it's all I got.
