    Unhappy Another Clown Funeral

Hi once again fellow reef types,

I just buried the second Percula Clown in four weeks. I had a pair and one jumped out. I bought another and it jumped out. I have one left. Is this typical of all clowns or just this variety? I very much enjoyed having each pair as they were constantly in motion. I don't think I'll get another as right now, I'm afraid a new one or even my existing one might jump and die. Obviously my tank is not covered and I really don't want to cover it. I try to keep my water level about 3/8 of an inch from the top.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Maybe a different type of fish?? It would be nice to have a pair.

I've had two clowns jump from my tank, even though for the most part it's covered. Clowns seem to jump alot unless they're in a really big tank. How big is yours?

Yeah, thats a cool tank too! I saw it just after I typed the response. A 41g cube, looks huge lol. The ones we had hopped from a 46g bow. You could get a mesh lid for it, that won't mess with the heat or aesthetics as much!

Sorry to hear about your clowns.

Here is a link to something that should prevent fish from landing outside your tank...

Clear Mesh for Tank Tops (keeps fish in/heat out)

Here is the one I did for my 29 biocube:

ALL fish jump in certain situations (less maybe anglers). It's easy, and very feasible to make good tops for your tank. If you want to keep fish, get a top.

Well it looks like the mesh top is the answer. I'm not very handy at making things though. Do you know of anyone that sells custom fit mesh tops??

    Tanks,

Whoa...just looked at my tank. I have a UV, Fluval tube, dual skimmer and heater hanging on the back. Can't quite conceive how a mesh top might fit with all of that plumbing.

Cut a little hole in it for things that need to come in I guess, or maybe mod the trim of the mod just for that. I don't know how to do it either lol. I have a piece of paper over mine at night :/ . My fish only seem to hop around at night, don't know if thats the case for everyone though.

The way to handle it is build the screen so that it is short in the back, then take a piece of plastic, plexiglass, or acrylic and make a custom piece that allows for the plumbing and wires to go over the back.

I can make a top for you, but it would be pretty tough to do the back piece without having the tank right here. Looking at your pics, your front rimstock is curved?
