you think a bristle worm is bad? bobbits are about 100x worse, they will swallow fish and coral whole and if you tear them apart or in half they can usually reform into a whole again. very very vicious worm! i think a year or two ago there was a couple people in michigan that had them, i believe one was almost 6 feet or long if im not mistaken. i cant recall who it was but i think they took it to their LFS and that LFS put it on display for people to see.
summed up it is pretty much a reefers nightmare to have one, you literally have to tear down the whole tank to get it out of the rock work they burrow in. their jaws are so strong i believe they can actually cut holes in liverock to make dens inside the rock work. you have to tear down the tank to be sure he is out or you will be doing it again in the future. you either have to boil or break all the rock that they are in to get them out because their spikes are strong enough to where you cant pull them out without tearing their body. people have made traps for them but they never fully come out of the rock work so when they get stuck in the trap they usually just rip in half and heal up and are a full worm again.
I'm not sure about swallowing fish and corals whole, but - I snapped this photo at the Tropicorium in September of 2009. This Bobbit worm is sitting in a 24" long tote. When elongated, it was easily longer then 2 feet...

The Bobbit Worm Chronicles - Michigan Reefers
It takes a long long time to build a coral reef. Step by step the reefs survive on partnerships. And the most important partners are you and I.
