    Welcome Aboard!

Looks like you are off to a good start. The only thing glaring out is the canister filter. Might consider dropping that from the system if already pruchased, if not save the $$$.

Your plan may be a little much biolod on the system, just add slowly and monitor things as it matures. If you are not going to be running a sump/refuge I'd say bring your sandbed to 4" or so, any argonite based sand.

I could not agree with dakar more, you are a little loaded on the fish, I would ditch the flame, I know they are a great fish but that is still a fairly small tank for one, and the increased depth of sand will help with your nitrates and nitrites. But glad to see you on the forum and welcome!!!!! We are hear when you have questions. there are ALOT of great people here with a wealth of knowledge.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Hey adam I also have a 29 gallon. I have 2 false-percs, a coral beauty angel and a algae blenny along with a BTA. They all seem to be fine and the filtration is perfect with the 4" of live sand and approximately 30 lbs live rock and a Prizm hang-on protein skimmer. I am going to add a hang on power filter to add mechanical filtration just to try and catch some of the floating junk in the tank. Any questions on specific fish coral or inverts check out marinedepotlive.com or liveaquaria.com both sites have assisted me greatly in my research and selections.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#

Why wouldn't he want to use a canaster filter on his setup? I ask because I use one on my 29 Gallon tank.

The common theory is that canister filter tend to cause problems with nitrates. You need to clean the filters on a very regular to insure all of the waste from the tank is exported. I have heard of people replacing the filter in the canister with live rock instead.

Here is a recent post from someone with this problem.
