Default Tips on buying used tanks???

Does anyone have tips on buying used tanks? I have been considering upgrading to a larger size but the cost of a new tank and stand is pretty crazy so I have scanning the classifieds and e-bay. I would love to hear the good and bad things about buying used.

Make sure you get the one you really want. I got a deal with a used 75 gal and stand. $200 for the whole thing! Great isn't it, but it is tempered (I think that is the word for it), anyway I can't drill it so I am going to have to find a way around that in order to do my sump. So just make sure the tank you are looking at is really the one you want, ask all the questions you have.

sounds like great advise, Amanda !! as for me ... i got a used reef ready 125 for $200. the key to buying used is to have the person you buy from fill it up when you arrive to pick it up to make sure it doesn't leak. unless of course you know them (like i did) !! so anyway i picked up the tank, stand, canopy for $200, and a hagan test kit, a UV sterilizer (that is up for sale),all kinds of reef chemicals from stress gaurd to copper detoxifier, and fish and coral food out the wazoo for $75. so i spent $275 that day and got all of that.

Thanks for the pointers. $275 for 125 is an awesome deal. I am thinking of a 90 or 120. LFS quoted me $1500 with stand. Ugh.

wow, thats high man !! i can get you a RR 90 bowfront with stand and canopy for $600, only drawback is that you would have to pick it up and its here in Louisville. but to save $900 i think i would be thinking about a road trip.
