It is custom and that is the good thing. Plus I learned some skills that I can use now around the house. I did have to buy a drill press but then I have always wanted one. Now I have an excuse to set up some tools in the garage because I have quite a few now. I really do want to try the three up XP-g but I might wait until the new series comes out this fall. Those are supposed to be rediculous as far as output goes.

On a small tank like a 50 breeder or one of those rimless beauties Led's are not that cost prohibitive. It is when you get into a large tank that it starts to become almost a mission because of cost. I do anticipate a great deal of savings though from taking off 1300 watts of halide and a 4 amp chiller that ran almost all the time.

got the "torch array running. only running 4 of 7 strings right now. Par Mid tank is 400-500 and 200-300 on the bottom on that side of the tank. I am going to tweak some of the pendent placements now.

Actually I am going to a rimless tank so the arrays will be redone. I will likely then have some arrays for sale. Working out the design now

Best solution I can offer is to chisel them off with a flat blade screwdriver put to the side of the star. Be careful obviously. As for removing it off the back of the star, chip away excess on the edges, and sand the base down flat. I'm not suggesting chemicals as the LED is far to close, and could be damaged by some of them.

That is what I will do. Does the number of LED's I am thinking of using iver the 18" deep tank sound about right to you for SPS, clams, and chalices.

Very possible. It's a little hard to really tell without seeing a layout diagram though.
