I will be swapping out tank soon and have been considering buying a new return pump. I have alway used MAG pumps but was curious to get some input from everyone. Quiet Ones look kind of interesting.

I use catalina aquariums, I'll stick with them, they work well and are quiet!!
Does water always taste like salt and poo????
For internal pumps, I use Mag pumps. For external, Little Giant and Sequence Dart pumps.
I use little giants for external, for submersible pumps I use Aquaclear 101 for under 1000gph and Mag pumps for over 1000gph,
I like the Aquaclear 101 pumps because I can choke it down to 5gph and it will still be silent, and they are inexpensive (~$50)
60g Tank: 10g Fuge/Sump, Current Nova Extreme 4x54w T5HO + 4 LED, Wave2k, 2x Seio M620, Euro-Reef RS5-2 Skimmer, 130 lbs Live Rock, 3" Live Sand, LPS Corals, Zoa's, Saddle Anemone, Pulsating Xenia, GSP, Neon GSP, Purple Shrooms, Crocea Clam, Pair of Ocellaris Clowns, Yellow Tail Damsel, Coral Beauty Angel, Black Sailfin Blenny, Eel (Gymnothorax tile), Coral Banded Shrimp, Cleaner Shrimp, Sally Light Foot Crab.
Thanks for the input folks. Based on your opinions and my experience, I will probably just stick with the MAG pumps.
I have a rio 2100 running for 16 month no trouble and quiet and cheep. A Rio 2500 for 2 months. I am thinking I will use them for sub pumps despite all the horror stories because they work well are quiet and a good value.
Hmm. I actually have a spare Rio 2100. It is about 6ft from the bottom of the sump to the top the return pipe, 3/4" pipe. Do you think the 2100 can handle it??
I would stear clear of the rios, to many bad reviews about them leaking oil and crashing tanks.
Does water always taste like salt and poo????
Thanks for the info. Where does the oil come from???
The inside of the pump. The 2100 and 2500 are the worst for nuking tanks. I used them for years to mix saltwater and pump water during water changes, but both of them burned up, complete with sparks, smoke and an oil slick on the water. Beware.
