lights: 2 cf 23w ea. on display( worst lighting lol) 4x24w t5 on sump. 130w on qt when fish is in so not on all the time.

    Pumps/powerheads. Rio 2100(25w), 2 sunsun 1300gph(24w together), k2 in sump(9w), penguin 660 in qt(? watts) hob filter penguin 200b (15w?)

245 on qt w/o known wattage of the powerhead. when no fish probably around 25w(estimating the powerhead) because i turn off the heater til before i get a fish.
6w per gallon on all systems with everything on totalling 140g total approxamatly.

Right now I don't have a system. We bought a house so I sold everything but am looking to get back in. With my last system I had my 120 display with 2 mp-40's, euro reef rs180, and 8 overdriven icecap t5 retros, and a mag 12 return pump and then I had the 200 gallon with a mag 36 return and cheap lights, and a 75 gallon with a 4 bulb t5 fixture with hob filters and 2 hydor korilia 4's. I don't know what it cost to run that but is wasn't cheap.

return pump, other circulation pumps & skimmer: 310W
    Heaters:400W (two 200W)
Lights: 200W (LED on both display & frag tank)

Night: 1.5W/gal without heaters, 3.68W/gal with.

edit: if I calculate my heaters as an average like John did, then I come up with ~120 watts of constant heater so...

    daytime: 630W, 3.31 W/Gal
    nighttime: 420W, 2.21 W/Gal

    Awesome. Thanks for updating that.
I will think outside the glassbox.

Part 2 or this thread will involve find out how much we REALLY spend monthly on electricity...

So far I'm noticing smaller systems use MORE Watts Per Gallon... than a larger system does.

    So...

Watts / total water volume = what I want to know.

If you want show how effecient the tank is at night and during the day.
On average, we run 40 400 Watt MH lights about 6 hours per day and about 65 4' 40W std flourescent bulbs abour 8 hours per day. 5 furnaces around 90,000 BTU run a lot in cooler weather. 3 1 HP blowers run continuously, and about 20 powerheads run all the time. The shop's electric bill is around $1600 per month in winter and a little less in the summer. The gas bill is around $1200 per month in cooler weather, little in warmer weather. Staggering?? Dick
