what other fish do you have in your tank.i suggest ditch the brine all together it have little to no nutritional value to sw at all.its like popcorn to humans saticfying for the moment but isnt fortifying nutrition.your list below
1/4 cube frozen brine(ditch it)
1/4 cube frozen mysis(very high in protien)
14 drops of live refridgerated phytofeast(coral food)
1 drop Kent Zoecon(ok but selcon is more advanced and contains more nutrients for fish and inverts alike great for presoaking foodsto boost nutrients)
4 drops Kent Zoe
2 pumps frozen Cyclopeze(good for corals and small fish)
10-20 drops of Coralive Liquid Gold Pro Plus(also for corals)
A pinch of Dainichi Reef Veggie FX (baby size, sinking)( i persoannly use thera+A pelets for all my fish very high in nutrients and vit for all fish one of the best available(pellets)also combats paresites naturally) fed 2x per day
A couple drops of Garlic Juice(i prefer garlic extreme higher cancentrates of vit c than fresh clove or garlic juice).
harbivores have very high metabolizms making multipul feedings per day a must.their diet requires 75% plant and algae based foods 25% protiens(meaty)
if using nori(dried algae sheets) the red variety holds more nutrients than the green( i was told this personally by the head ichtyolegist of the Tolado Zoo aquarium)I use this as a treat or added to prepaired pm feeding all soaked in water with garlic and selcon b4 feeding..pm feeding for all my tangs and herbivores consist of emerald entrese frozen (algae cubes with mysis ) formula 2 by acean nutrition(algae cube).I have other foods i add for other species i keep all mixed into a cup mixed and poured into the tank at one time but these are the ingredience added for herbivores(tangs, foxfaces ect.) periodicly(2-3 times per week) i add veggie flakes by omega one to the midday feeding along with the pellets for extra veggie content.
ps nori (seaweed sheets )sold in grocery stores is dry roased which in this proccess removes most nutrients needed for these fish.sheets prepaired for fish is not cooked and not meant for human consumption
You feed that to your tank every day? With that much food going
no wonder there is an algae outbreak in there??? FYI Peletized food can produce phosphate in the water, due to the preservitaves added to it. It should be used sparingly. Fish don't have to be fed every single day, unless it's an Anthias. This is where so many people keeping fish in a reef have the most difficulty, finding a balance. In my opinion the fish should always be kept wanting more, it keeps them more acitve and in the case of herbivours they will keep the tank that much cleaner for you.

accully for the list of fish he keeps he does need to feed each day and sometimes multipul he has alot of grazing fish.but i did however reccommend better foods for his fish which may help remody some of the excesss waste.and tangs require multipul feeding from 3-5 times per day depending on size of the fish. you would freak if you seen my food list i feed 3 times daily and i have no algae or water quality issues
Feeding the fish 3-5 times daily is a recipe for disaster in tanks less than a couple hundred gallons, unless you are doing water changes 2x a week or more and you have a huge refugium soaking up all the nutrients. there is alot of watse produced regardless of the quality of the food , if the tank is less than 100 gallons and you feed that regiment you will most likely keep having algae issues. Just cause a tang grazes all day does not mean it needs to be fed more often.Another thing to consider is the more they are fed the faster they will outgrow your tank.
you dont have to give extra amounts of food per feeding just smaller amounts more times per day i feed mine just enough to be consumed in 3 min frozen foods(pm) enough for 5 min i do keep large fish so the amounts per feeding are adjusted by that the bigger they get the more food they consume in a feeding.i do 25% weekly water changes on most tanks 50 gal per week on 300.at this time i have wet dry systems on my tanks no sumps at all.nitrate and amonia never top .10 when testing also daily tops off with fresh ro water.if you maintain your tanks heavy feding should not be an issue
i would not say that i dose garlic but i do soak food in it when i notice a fish not eating or i get a new fish. i usually try to add it to their food at least 2 times a week. i have heard that it keeps the immune systems boosted up.
Geeze, I didn't know we were getting into extra feedings. The bottom line is the more you feed the more waste will be produced. If you want your tank to succeed, stability is the key. If you enjoy doing massive amounts of waterchanges weekly, more power to you. I dont see a stable tank as having any traces of Ammonia, Nitrate or Nitrite being detectable as stable. I have not done a waterchange in nearly a year, I have a red sea sailfin, lemonpeel, lionfish, a few cardinals and a clown, they get fed 2x a week they all seem to be doing well and I dont need to kill myself with all kinds of waterchanges, nor do i have the expense of purchasing salt every few weeks. One additonal thing, if you have to do waterchanges that often and that large in a reef tank it probably will cause stress to the corals due to the water chemistry fluxuations, and you are diluting the levels of calcium or whatever it is you try so hard to keep high.
I can see bith sides of this issue. In nature, fish feed constantly through the course of a day.Small, frequent feedings would best mimic how fish would feed in nature.I also feel strongly that diet in fish as well as corals is one of the most important factors in keeping them healthy.I do side with Chris on thinking stable/most natural water params are when you have 0's across the board for Nitorgen and Phosphate.I feed my fish daily spirulina flake and corals get fed at least 4times a week at night useing a mixture of mysis,GP's,and CE.That said,I have gona 3-4 days without feed. The fish also eat at night when i feed the corals.I,like Chris, rarely do waterchanges,I rely on heavy skimming and nutrient uptake from corals as my primary means of export.Been doing it this way for years and neither of my 5 reef tanks i've setup have ever had detectable nitrate/phosphate.
hey i fed just regular fresh garlic from the grocery store and chopped it up thin and mixed it in with some flakes and my fish look more colorful and brighter and look so much better
