    Default Male scooter Blenny.

I have a male scooter blenny that is VERY fat and happy. Every time I sit and watch the tank up close He swims over by me and displays the long fin on his back (dorsal fin?) He only does this when I look at him up close. Never to my husband or kids. Am I irritating him or something? Or he just happy? When he opens the fin it is beautiful. It has 4 dark spots and green and orange lines. I also noticed around his cheeks and eyes he had BRIGHT blue spots, like freckles. I never seen one like that. Is he maybe looking for a mate? Anyone have any clues to this behavior?

    Thanks,
    Angie

I have had two male scooter blennies and I agree that are really beautiful when they show off. Lots of purple spots on mine. I think they are just strutting their stuff.

Make sure you have big pod population for him. I think mine basically ate them selves out of a food supply. The first one was happy for quite while and then basically just faded away. I did not realize what the problem was so I replaced him about a month later. The second one lasted a month or so. After the fact I figured out what the problem was. I guess that is part of the hobby. Anyways enjoy your scooter blennie.

From what we can tell from ours he is showing off, our last one (before the tang started snacking on him) used to scoot all the way up to the top of the rock pile and try to swim with his bud, a false perc, but he would extend all of his fins and just sorta ride the current and hang as close as possible. It was really cool to watch, was the coolest red lipped scooter. He's been replaced, but couldn't find another red lipped one yet, need to let the tank mature a bit more before adding another, but we got lucky I guess, but he and even our LMB likes flake food too.

I have a 125 reef so he won't run out of pods. Plus my sump is full of pods. Every once in a while I take a big handful of chaeto out of the sump and shake it out in the main tank.
Plus, behind all of my rock, I have about 6 "pod piles" of reef rubble for them to hide and reproduce in. No danger of running out of pods. I'm just glad I'm not irritating him when he does that. My husband wants to see the blenny display, but he only does it for me, lol. He says my fish is in love with me. Jealous of a fish.....too funny.

Aw Angie.... your Scooter is in love with you! He's courting you! Our 1st scooter used to do that with our false perc Nemo. His markings reminded me of one of those beautiful long wrap floor length gowns the chinese would wear when they dance and such. When Nemo died, Scooter seemed to grieve. He was so quiet in the tank for 2 days and would tend to hang out in the area that he and little Nemo swam as best as he could. The 3rd day I found him dead under a rock in the same area as well. Interesting creatures huh? Hey, your Clarkii's are doing great, and YES.... they do bite very hard!!! lol

Sorry they are biting you, but I did give you guys fair warning, lol. I was thinking maybe the tank switch would make them nicer. I guess not As for the Scooter Blenny, he probably thinks I'm a fish. I'm working so many hours, that when I am home, I'm in front of the tank. I'm too tired to do anything else.

Nothing wrong with a few hours a day of what we call SeaTV. Asside from some Sunday afternoon football, it's more entertaining to set there instead of the 'idiot box' aka TV.

Coming home to your tank is one way to wind down, that's for sure. Hope they fixed your shift issues. That's awful. Which Wal-Mart are you at? I forgot to ask you the other day, but then again we had so much time to really talk! lol I think we spent more time on our cell phones again! hehe I love the mushrooms you gave me, and they can go awol all they want! lol The big one let loose except for the one long foot it had grown attached over the years with. When I looked in the tank one day, it was hanging off the rock like wash cloth!! I should have taken a picture right at that point to let the board see what you mean by HUGE!!! lol I'm starting my fragging for spring trading between board members. After winter, I'll be so ready to spring clean and rescape the tank! Don't work to hard Girl!!
