Cool! I have one molly, but I think she's lonely......not as front and center as she was at the LFS where I got her. Watch out, they're great jumpers, at least ours is, has jumped out 3X's now, I think she actually waits until the lid is off I have seen mine eating diatoms, they are great algae eaters.

I think the long term plan is to see how the mollies do and whether they reproduce successfully. Then I'm going to find some guppies...I'm leaning toward the Endlers Guppy since I think they look more "reefy" without the big tail that most guppies have. No doubt the guppies are going to be more difficult to acclimate to full salt than the mollies. I'm still working on my strategy to do that.

The real goal here for me is to get a small schooling/water column swimming fish for my nano. The fact that they don't cost $30 each is a nice bonus. But we will see how it goes...

This is quite possibly the most absurd thread ever to pollute CR. Going forward it will be a closely guarded secret that I consider you my friend Jim.

This thread is confusing me. Conflicted. Guppies in a reef tank? Insane... but yet, I can't turn away. Must follow. So tormented!
Detroit's oldest large LED tank! Est'd Jan 2005, went LED June 2009. 6' wide 130g reef, Sunbrite T10 LED tubes (3xGen 3 and 1xGen 1), mostly SPS, but chalices, other LPS, and a few softies too.

Absolutely fantastic thread! I did some reading a few months ago about SW mollies and guppies. From what I have read the mollies are no problem, some people even dropped them straight from fresh to salt, although I wouldn't advocate that. Guppies seem to be just fine too, if you acclimate long enough.

I am more interested in the guppies because like Jim was hoping for a nice schooling fish for a nano. There isn't a great SW fish for this, well that is affordable anyway. Those endlers are gorgeous! Would make a perfect fish.

I decided to do a little experimenting. I was at the fish store picking up salt and purchased two feeder guppies and two "fancy" guppies. I am going to try my hand at acclimating them to full salt (my tank is .026). I only wish I would have known about the endlers, those would be simply fantastic! The large tail of the fancy guppies does sorta seem out of place in a reef tank.

    Anyway, Ill post updates here.

The males are always chasing the females....so they do seem to swim together.

Sad news... the female molly was missing when I got home from work today. I spotted something floating under one of the rock ledges in back. Sure enough it was what was left of her...she had been eaten in half. The squat lobster was right there...so hard to say if he nailed her or something else happened. I noticed it look like she was getting ready to have a batch of babies yesterday...maybe that had something to do with it.

Regardless, the rock anemone I got from @buk at the Lansing swap seemed to appreciate a little "fresh" meat:

As you can see the back half is gone in this pic.

BTW- This is a lot less sad then a normal fish death since they only cost $2 each.
