Angel,

All I did was boil water and place it in a small syringe that I use to feed baby birds. I then reached in the tank point and squeeze. Don't pull squeeze (ok that was a little army humor for anyone thats been thruogh basic training they will remember that) The little suckers will shrivel right up and never be seen again. In a case like yours I would nuke a few and then wait to make sure you don't introduce too much hot water and change your temp. A small syringe may also help as it would hold far less water to radiate the heat into your tank. I could mail you one if you would like they are very easy for me to come by. If you want to get your own I use the 3cc size, it could nuke a lot of appies and not enough water to hurt. You will know they are dead because they will shrivel up and in my case they instantly turned white. I like this method because if you do it before a top off you run no chance of introduceing anythig "abnormal" to your tank.
