I also notice that the screws and threaded inserts are rusting.

The current one is better, but still not ideal. I do run a CaRx and maintain 10dKh/440Ca, but it has never impacted any other return pump.
By chance r u dosing Kalk?
Had same problem w/ BubbleKing Red Dragon pump when I topped off w/ Kalkwasser

I replaced my Ocean Runner 3500 with a new Water Blaster HY-5000 and boy am I pleased!
The pump is plumbed with all 1" on the return and a lift of about 4 feet, the flow is almost too much for my 1" internal overflow and standpipe but I have a second standpipe as a back up if the level rises.
On the Kill A Watt meter it is running between 49 and 51 watts so is a little less than the OR 3500 which was running at 53 watts but the flow is much more. Extremely quiet and seems to run cool. I would highly recommend them.

Glad you like em ! I am so impressed with these pumps I used two of them on the new system! Each one driving it's own flow inductor ,dual gfo and carbon reactor and the uv sterlizer. I have had no issues in the year and a half of running them. I do plumb bypass valves to give more control of the output tho. Can't say enough good things about them. Tho I miss my external blue lines because now the heater runs all the time! Lol they run that cool.

I love mine as well. I will only use these pumps for future builds and coral vue has excellent customer service.
