One thing I forgot to mention, Eric Bornemans book is great for identifaction. However IMO he to often states his opion as fact. One would be how high to keep the salt content. At the 1.027 he suggest you would need about a 70-80 times turn over rate to make the situation work. He was keeping his personal tank at 1.030. Which as many predicted and told him would lead to the tank crash that he had recently. I feel sorry for all the corals that died because of that situation. It would be posible to keep a tank at that level but you are running a high risk of RTN, fish parisites, extreamly high alk and cal, o2 loss, and about 20 other problems. Of corse many people do not know about his little problem yet but I am sure the link will pop up here soon.
I feel that one of the problems many people face in this hobby is to think there is only one way to do things. Each tank is different and will grow, behave, and sistain itself differently. Anthor words because something works for me does not mean it is going to work for you.
As a public figure I do not feel the Eric Borneman keeps his mind open and is stuck in his ways. If others wish to comment on their experence about this (hint, hint, to some one), if not ask just post E.B. about running a bare bottom tank and see the reponse you get.
Ultimatly the key to any system is water changes and doing the work. You could have the best equipment in the world and still have it go to crap because you didn't do the work. So with all of this said, I feel as if there is enough people on this board to help and give advice about coral, tanks, systems, whatever else that someone could save $40.00 on a book and get a more helpful, nice, open minded, and less misleading advice.
However if you want a good book to identify corals, yes Eric Bornemans book is good for that. So after yet anther one of my long rants I hope that some one finds this useful. If you have e.b. book really read it, see the parts about salt content, the different sections on feeding, and his personal advice and how the change through out the book.
