they can, some tank raised clowns just don't know or don't care when it comes to hosting others love it, some will host in anything others nothing, it all has to do with your clown fish and what he wants to do

It is really nice to see you here in this thread. While your online how about you go over to the TOTM thread and enter or vote. It will only take a minute
what would be the best to host with it that will get along with my perc.
also every time i try to feed him thetang just steals it. i tried feeding the fish at the same time and even try to keep him away with tongs but nothing works
You could target feed foods that are harder for the fish to steal, such as cyclopeeze, oyster eggs, etc.
and how come my shrimp arn't stung when they walk on him?
Use a syringe or baster (depending on the size of the food offered) to gently place the food on the tentacles.
Forgot to mention, shrimp have exoskeletons... no fleshy parts to be stung by the anemone.
Your clown may host sometimes it just take a longggg time... Ours took close to 3 months before he even looked.. He'll start doing this this funny little dance and dart in and out of the bubble. Pretty soon he will take up housekeeping. But clowns don't really need a BTA.actually IMHO the clowns just seem to cause more distress than good for them anyway mine chewed on the tenticles.... mine likes my leathers and mushrooms.. never even looked at any of the other host type critters... bubble coral, elegance ect....Your BTA needs time to settle in a spot of his choice.. and the won't be anywhere YOU want him to be! lol
keep a eye on him he may not sting you but he can/will sting your other corals..
for feeding you could try a plastic tub with holes over him just long enough for him to eat... keep that pesky carnivorious tang from getting his food and give him time to chow down.. put a small rock on top to keep it from floating off... just a thought. lol
good luck...

I had 2 RBTA in my tank and a mated pair of Ocellaris. After 3 years they never bonded. The clowns actually host my giant clam. The RBTA were sent packing. I got tired of them stinging my SPS. I tried everything to get them to host (my clowns). I put a clown shaped lettuce clip next to the RBTA the clowns would knock it away but would not host, I taped pictures of clowns hosting in a RTBA they would show aggression toward the picture but would not host. For feeding the RBTA I would just take a silver side and thaw it out in a cup of tank water then I would wave it in front of the RBTA and just place it on the tentacles the RBTA would do the rest.
