    Default mushroom anchoring

so I have 2 mushrooms that I want anchored to a piece of rock. I tried to anchor one of them to an expired clam shell with super glue but heres what happened:

i pulled him out and the clam shell
dried both decently with a towel
    put super glue on clam
held mushroom and it seemed attached
he totally shriveled up to less than a dimes width (normal 2" across or so) for like a week ... thought he died actually
but he came back and isnt attached now

what did i do wrong? or how should i go about it better?

Mushrooms, do not adhere well with super glue. There base is living tissue, and they shed the outer layer like we shed skin cells.

There are two ways I have heard to attach mushrooms:

1 Use lace to tie the shroom to the rock where you want it, then give it time to grab hold.

2 use a plastic toothpick to spear the shroom, and a hole in the rock, and wait for the foot to grab hold.

you can use rubber bands too, but don't place them over the mouth, either you'll kill it or it will split. Splitting isn't a bad thing but wait till it is anchored before you try splitting it.

theyve been splitting/leaving smaller versions of themselves on their own. I dont know if I could bring myself to cut one in half.

I like the toothpick through the base idea. I dunno if I could get string or a rubber band around it to secure it to a rock.

Any estimates on how long it takes for them to attach a fo0t? Or does it just depend on each individual shro0m?

thanks for all the help btw

bobby - which way do you use? toothpick or string/rubber band?

to each shroom its own... I have never had luck with getting them to attach. They grab hold, but a day after I remove the lace, or toothpick, they let go, and try to more to other places. Usually the intake of a powerhead.

It could be as quickly as a few days to a few weeks, but they do attach

best luck we've had yet with getting shrooms to attach is to turn them loose in a low flow area in a pile of pea sized gravel, rubble, or shells... once they decide to attach then superglue the rubble or whatever to where we want them. Depending on where you put them in the tank sometimes they just bail from thier new home again, sometimes they stay put. They end up in the oddest of places sometimes...but as Rob suggested the input of a powerhead is as likely as anyplace for them to end up

We put rubble in a shot glass, put tank water in and than the mushroom. Place the shot glass in the tank in a low flow area and wait. Check it to make sure it's not attaching to the shot glass. If you need to you can cover the top of the shot glass with lace so it doesn't float out. We have used this many times with ricordia and mushrooms. You do get jokes about shot glasses in the fish tank

i use the samw 2 methods as Robert, although i try the lace method first. just make sure the holes in the lace are wide enough to let light pass through it but not let the shroom out. i PREFER wedding vail material.
