Forgot about your iodine Q. Do not use standard store iodine. You will need to get an iodine meant for reef tanks. One of the most commonly used is lugols. Usually reef iodine can be found at most LFS's.

As mentioned before- unless you find a predator in the polyps, I would use a dip at this time as an emergency back up. A dip will stress your already stressed polps, and could do just as much damage as good.

yeah i can find out the alk of the tank i got them from..might take awhile though..i will post the info when i get it..thanks everyone for the information

The alk they came from is 9-10..mine is at 11..just tested it..is that enough to throw them off...

It could. Mostly depend on your aclimation process. What steps did you take as far as dipping and acclimation?

I have an acculmation valve that drips 1 drip every 2 seconds..and i driped for 1 1/2 hours sucking water out of the container with a turkey baster as it got full.. I did not dip at all..

Sounds like you carefully aclimated, and did it properly. The alk swing they went through was small and aclimated over time. If the alk swing is the cause, they are just getting used to the new water parameters, lighting and flow and should open up eventually. Watch them carefully though, just in case its another issue affecting them.

Keep a close eye on them for any more missing polyps. Also, take a good look at them a couple hours after lights out. Check for predators. They can hide in the crevices of polyps and not be seen durring the day, and come out after the lights are out. Check out the pics in the zoanthid sticky for possible predators. Besides the ones pictured, watch for zoanthid eating spiders and sundial snails, all of which pics can be found with a quick google search.

When adding polyps to tanks, it is strongly recomended to do a dip before adding to a tank. Polyps are very likely to carry in a wide range of hitchikers/predators compared to many other corals. Dipping is a common practice with many polyp collectors/owners.

Just out of curiosity- what is your salinity at in the tank right now? High salinity is another cause for closed polyps, most likely the newest additions.

I also have a group of polyps I am waiting out. They were open for the first week, and closed up ever since. They have been closed for some time now. I have checked everything possible, and have decided that they are just unhappy with somthing, and are aclimating to the new conditions of my tank. I watch them every day, making sure they dont start going downhill, and waiting for the day they will eventually get used to my tank and open up again. I am confidant they will sooner or later. Polyps can be extreamly tempermental on minute and indestructable the next.

ok may have just found out the reason..my salinity.is 1.028.its normally 1.024..i just found out i added saltwater as top off water..i need to find a place to separate the 2.. going to do a water change real quick..
