Knowledgable Zoa/Paly People I'm Calling You OUT!

WE POLYP LOVERS NEED THIS KNOWLEGE SHARED!!!!!


Might just give us a new way of describing our polyps, when every polyp out there has 10 different names......like- the blue, with green ring paly, found deep off the reefs in hawaii, comonly called Blah, blah blah- or blah blah blah....., not the blue w./ green ring zoa that is normally collected or found in the wild from australia.



I Know this knowlege is out there.......calling it out!!!! I also know a few of you out there know the folks that have this knowlege very well......

Speaking of call outs, and knowlegable polyp lovers, I could use some info myself!!!

I have tried, without sucess, to reaserch the differences (visually) of polyps, due to where they caame from or have been collected. I sure could use this info. Pics for reference would be nice too! Even broken down further, with a description of the environment they are in (temp, flow, depth, near shore/reef, water conditions like turbidity and parameters, ect) would be awsome!!!

I have noticed there are differences and similarities that are common in many groups of zoas/palys, and would like to see the types (colors, disk size, stem thickness, eye type, ect) broken down to regons they come from. In the past, I have run across those with this knowlege, but have yet to see it shared, in one area, all in one post. Sure would be nice to see this info!!!!!

Knowlegeable paly enthusiest-

That polyp is a zoanthid, typically found/collected of the coast of vietnam, where the water conditions are not far off shore.

And the Knowlegeable paly enthusiest seems to know this info on many many polyps that have been posted in pics, in many different posts, from may different area......

I would love to see this info broken down and shared!!!

Like, caribean polyps- typical variations, descriptions, and pics for reference, put into a list- then on down the line, to australia, africa, vietnam, hawaii, ect.

I have been looking for this info for a loooong time, but just havnt grasped this knowlege.....I know there are some out there that do.....please take the time to share???? And if you know someone that can, please, please- convince them to do it. I would be very aprreciative!!!

I hear what you're saying SP, but in all honesty, I don't know if we are the correct resource for this question or the answer. I mean, I know some, and there's a friend of mine in Missouri who knows a ton of this info as he would hang out at the LFS and ask them tons of questions on the days new arrivals came in. I'm sure many others here know some as well. But this type of info can be secured from from your LFS, coral farms, wholesalers etc I would think. WHY? They are the recipients of these shipments. A simple Q & A from their suppliers transhippers MIGHT yield many of the answer relative to collecting conditions and collecting locations. Even a specific location could assist with a simple internet search of the climate and possible water conditions of said climate and region. Just a thought.

There are a few people I have in mind whom I can ask and see if they can shed some light on this for you.

Z. sociatus; I'd love to see some additional pictures of - everyone talks about these, but pictures of positively IDed ones seem to be few and far between.

Now what if it is sort of like the same reason why toadstools shed, because they are getting bigger. That could be the reason why zoas shed. Another reason they can shed I think is to get detritus off of them, it is kind of like them taking a bath. I have never personally seen them shed but when ever I have a zoa or paly that won't open up the first thing that I do is put them in very high flow and more times than not they will open in a day or two. Here is a perfect example, I had a frag of palythoa at the bottom of my tank in very low flow and they were closed up for three days. I put them in high water flow yesterday and they began to open up an hour later. Could that have caused them to shed, sure it could have helped them!
