Those who know me know that I am always willing to share the knowledge that I have gained in my years in the hobby. I also try to share the corals that I grow. At this weekends swap I will be delivering several corals that I randomly gave away to newbs in the chat box on this forum. I guess that is what bothers me about the position that the hobby has become a greed factory. I know personally I have made many friends and met many great people in this hobby. I continue to do so. I will leave the swap this Sunday with friends that I didn't have before. I just don't see as much negativity in the hobby as some. As for zoas and palys...I don't keep many of them these days. My passion for acros has taken a higher priority.

Andy, you made the comment that you've grow lots of colonies from single frags, how about sharing the wealth of information you obviously have with the rest of us. Not every polyp has/needs the same things, not every coral thrives under the same conditions, why not share the wealth of information? What is so wrong about that?

Absolutely nothing. I am not opposed to the idea of a fellow reefer making a little money to support his hobby (personally I would prefer to trade, but if others want to sell, I have nothing against that), I am also not opposed to vendors making a fair profit and supporting their business. Just in case you missed it, the key word there is fair. I am opposed to those who attempt to make an unfair profit. Am I qualified to tell you exactly what is or isn't a fair profit - no I'm not, and I agree with some others that to some degree "fair" is going to depend on an individuals pocketbook. Personally I think that naming a coral for the sole purpose of making more money is wrong. Having the Tyree or LE name attached doesn't make the coral any more valuable or any more rare.
I answered your question, you let me ask you one. Do you think that it is right for some one to buy up a colony of 100+ polyps for say $20 or $30 and then turn around and sell them for $20 a polyp or better yet $200 a polyp? And before you state that that is an absurd example, I can tell you for a fact that I have seen it happen on the boards within the last year.

Awesome, simply awesome point of view and worth repeating. This getting into the hobby solely to make money is very very sad in my opinion.

+1 on that, i will be doing the same but people never see the positive things you do, they only judge you by what you did wrong. i don't see the negativity etiher, i wish everyone would just enjoy it and be happy for a change and that is what i was trying to say earlier but that all got blown away lol.

I didnt buy it, wouldnt buy em if they were 10pp in all honesty, their not that nice IMO and I can get em for less anyways.. they look ever so slightly different under different lighting and less photochopped but still the same thing.... or a close enough morph that the extra $ aint worth it to me lol

But as you can see in this thread and any thread I have ever replied to, I don't call people out. Someone made a statement about Tyree and I agreed 200% , but I leave it there. Did you hear what Wy Renegade said a few pages back? Man this happens all the time. Do you really believe that everyone in reefing is here because they love corals? Seriously bro, SERIOUSLY !!!!!!

i bet you they all still enjoy their tanks and this hobby which you said they didn't so you cant even follow your own words nor do you have any proof to back it up other than saying dozens so how do i know that what you are saying isnt BS. why should i believe you?

and yes at one time i would say almost everyone who is in this hobby loved coral, it is the reason we all started this hobby, we all had to start at some point, we don't just walk into a store and buy a piece of coral not having a tank and try to sell it for more money, we all started with our tanks and added certain corals we thought were cool to them and let them grow out and learned from it and enjoyed it before leading to that point so i do believe "almost" everyone in reefing is here because they love coral.

I might not be getting ripped off by you (solely because I wont buy from you), but just about anywhere I look for nice coral its been jacked up because of a b.s. name and lineage back to someone that didnt collect em from the ocean themselves anyways...

i agree with you there 100% and i know you wont buy from me nor do i ever expect/want you too lol, but my side of the stone is that it doesn't bother me if they jacked the price up because i choose not to buy if i think they are over charging for that piece.
