You always have a nice setup Jim. Did you ever get your nutrient issue under control? If so, how? I know you tried a number of ideas.

Since I hooked up my Ca reactor, it seems like nitrates have been overall lower. I think that the reactor media probably functions as more filtration area for anaerobic bacteria to colonize. With that said, I have had periodic issues with the effluent clogging on the ca reactor which doesn't help the situation.

I'm not sure if I will untilize a Ca reactor on the next tank. I may add some sulfur media and try to convert it to a denitrator. Then I can unhook the CO2 tank and use it for a kegerator. :p

When I think back to when I have been most sucessful...i.e, best growth, colors, lack of algae I think it is when I used the Kent bionic A & B. The kent worked better than the homemade randy holmes-farley recipe as well. I besides adding calcium and alk to the water, I believe the Kent also had some trace elements that were helping as well. So I may go back to old school on my Ca/Alk plan on the new cube project. I'm also tired of all the cords and clutter that comes with all the high tech.

Jeremy - It looked like you were getting a little low on gameroom $, so I hooked you up.

The calc reactor, or the AB you used to use certain increased growth of your coral, and while they grow they update nutrients; thus lowering the free nutrients in the water. That's my theory anyways :D

I was over to a fellow reefers house picking up some blue tubs..and he showed me a neat trick..he combines1 part formula 1 pellents to 2 parts formula 2 pellets and takes a thin clear tube long enough to reach the corals and crimps one end. then he drops a pellet into each individual polyp of his paly's.this doesnt work with zoas though but he has some of the best looking palys i have ever seen..
