Use base rock and top it off with some live rock to "seed it". It's both cheaper, and more "eco friendly". I used this product: www.marcorocks.com

Here's what 50 lbs looks like. Very porous, very nice rock.

I've had it in my sump now for about a month, in preparation for use in my new clam tank and new seahorse tank.

It's now FILLED with munnid isopods, mysid, gammarus amphipods, and yeah...even baby bristle worms. It has JUST begun to color up with a dark purple, crimson coralline.

Yeah... he's a hitch hiker allright... More like a human hemmeroid sometimes

I'm glad you like the tip/lead. Personally, I've not found a better base rock. This stuff is soooo light and porous. It's amazing.

I could not agree more with what david said. I am alllways "cooking" some base rock into live rock. if I dont use if for my tanks. I sell it to the LFS it works out great.

Isn't it great when people have larger sumps than we have display tanks? lol
