The best part with the swalesi is you don't have to be a rich guy in Thailand to get one...Preuss has had a couple in stock...it's a cool fish for sure.

Really that guy gets all the good stuff, lol.

Im assuming it's not as pricey as a Candy Basslet?

I think candy basslet is the same as swalesi?

Not to say they are "cheap" fish. It still would make my wallet sting if I bought one...but I doubt Reef Builders would write an article about it.

As mentioned the L.A. pic posted is a Liopropoma carmabi (Candy Basslet). They generally retail $800-1,000 each. The Liopropoma swalesi generally retails around $100. I'm a big fan of the Swalesi basslet personally, they have a unique coloration to them, whereas the Candy Basslet is almost gaudy bright (of course, still beautiful!).

I thought of you Rob when I saw Ching picked these up, they are a very, very nice fish!

Ah I see Liopropoma swalesi verus carmabi. The swalesi seems to be referred to as a pacific candy basslet on a lot of sites.

    The "joys" of common names

    L. carmabi is from the Atlantic, L. swalesi the Pacific.
