I agree with everyone above, that is awesome Big Steve. 2 Thumbs up to Reef Oddyssey. Those prices are exactly what they should be and you didn't mention a single name, make that a total of 3 thumbs up.

Just copied your thread and sent it around the net to support this guy. Thanks for sharing. He kind of reminds me of Coral Props. Nice loaded no name frags for $ 15.

Are you going to detach them and attach them to mother rocks?

    Thanks for sharing my friend.

Any updates Steve? What did you decide to do with them?

I think you'll be very pleased with your decision.

BTW, I use to visit a LFS there in Grandville years ago, are they still open?

Hey Big Steve, I found a picture to depict why I said this below and above.

"Me personally, I have never like zoas and palys on plugs. But since this is how many are being sold, one has to decide which method of removal/attachment is best if any at all. I have seen some great polyps on plugs inserted into holes of live rock and some which have the stems cut off and then glued to rocks. Once the polyps begin to grow/encrust, you have this knot with a collection of polyps on it like a big pimple on a symmetrical plug which doesn't look natural at all ( I will find a pic and share it on this matter ). I personally don't like this unnatural appearance in my tank, but again, it's personal preference so you should do what is best for you."

This is a top down photo of a zoanthid frag chip on a plug. Note how the polyps are growing down and around the base and perimeter of the plug onto whatever is below the plug. It doesn't appear to be a rock, or maybe it is, I can't tell. I'm sure Impur left it in place, but if someone else removed this plug, they could potentially cause great damage or mortality to these otherwise healthy polyps. If this were a side view picture, the large bump would be much more pronounced. I have seen polyps on plugs that were placed on frag racks which were left there far to long and those polyps grew down and underneath the frag plugs and even onto the frag racks themselves. These polyps are photosynthetic and without adequate light they can bleach and often perish when underneath the plug base. Again, it's all personal preference and I hope they are doing well for you my friend. Good luck.

    Just my opinion.

Mucho I'd like your opinion I usually glue plug to rock let it cover a nice rock then cut round the plug n let center fill back in. I take the full frag plug n trade with lfs for water n other items. Do you suggest I remove from plug first. I do this leaving good 3-4 inches of polyps all around the hole left from removing the plug so were talking a lot of polyps left on rock it worked good so far

Hey Steve, sorry I missed this.

I guess it’s personal preference. Me personally, I have never like zoas and palys on plugs. But since this is how many are being sold, one has to decide which method of removal is best if any at all. I personally don't like this unnatural appearance in my tank, but again, it's personal preference so you should do what is best for you.

If you usually remove the plug, often polyps are killed or severely damaged when cutting the plug loose from the rock. If the plug is then taken in for credit at your LFS, and that frag doesn't sell right away, those polyps will then begin to grow down and underneath the plug. These perfectly healthy polyps may not perish, but will lose their color and will then perish if they are purchased and glued to a rock of the new owner as those polyps are now underneath the frag and might succumb when glued down.

If you are going to attach the entire plug, I would seek out a rock with a slight indentation like a donut in the center, and secure the frag that way. Then once the polyps begins to grow, they will grow outward onto the rock instead of downward and then onto the rock which leaves the big pimple like appearance on a great looking rock. I have shared this with many reefers and all of them seem to prefer this method. Again, it’s personal preference.

Personally, I have always removed frags I have had to buy on plugs in the past after a few days of allowing them to acclimate to the new system, then attach them to 4 inch rocks or larger. Since I am against fragging frags, I usually wait until the polyps cover the rock then I place small rock chips on the perimeter of the mother rock and allow the polyps to migrate to these small chips and then sell, trade or give them away.

Again, it's what you feel best with doing. Good luck and thanks for sharing this.
